Overview

Perhaps the most underrated franchise of the last 10 years, the Baltimore Ravens are consistent as time. Baltimore missed the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl in 2012, but rebounded last year to earn the final wild card spot before advancing to the Divisional game. General manager Ozzie Newsome had to feel good about the progress made, but still made some notable moves.

Newsome allowed wide receiver Torrey Smith to leave in free agency, but drafted Breshad Perriman in the first round to pair with Steve Smith Sr. Newsome also made time for Brandon Williams and Timmy Jernigan to get into the starting lineup by dealing Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions for a pair of mid-round picks.

Major Battle

While not the sexiest training camp battle of all-time, watch out for the safeties. Newsome signed free safety Kendrick Lewis away from the Houston Texans in the offseason, but he’s middling at best and a liability in run support. He will battle with both Will Hill and Matt Elam for spots, a sentence that might be slightly terrifying to many Ravens fans.

Expectations

The Ravens have balance with terrific players on all three sides of the game, along with an excellent coach. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King gave Baltimore the top spot in his power rankings, and it is understandable. With young players such as C.J. Mosley, Williams and Jernigan coming into their own, along with a veteran offense, Baltimore is extremely dangerous.
