There are several rumors going around that the Los Angeles Dodgers could be looking to trade Yasiel Puig to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Cole Hamels. I just do not see this as a move that makes much sense for the Phillies.

Philadelphia is years away from making the playoffs, and in all likelihood, will need a complete overhaul to get there. Puig is only 24-years old, and is locked up through 2018. But if the talented right fielder has become a headache for a contender in Los Angeles, all signs point to him being a horrible fit for a team that will be in rebuilding mode for the foreseeable future.

So how will the Dodgers manage to land one of the hottest commodities of the MLB trade deadline?

With their plethora of top prospects, which is exactly what the Phillies need.

Shortstop Corey Seager, infielder Hector Olivera and pitchers Julio Urias and Jose De Leon all rank among the top-20 prospects in baseball, according to Baseball America. This, combined with the Dodgers’ willingness to spend big for the shot at the World Series, makes them perhaps the most realistic option to land Hamels’ services.

The Phillies ace is without a doubt one of the best pitchers in the game. During a down year, Hamels is still posting a sub-4.00 earned run average. He is also averaging 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings, the best since his rookie season.

While it would not come cheap, and would certainly cost at least one of their top prospects, a trio of Hamels, Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw at the top of the rotation would make the Dodgers one of the favorites to win it all in 2015.
