Southampton were the surprise package in the Premier League last season and will need to bring in new faces to consolidate upon that success. With a couple of high-profile departures already replaced, the lack of big names might start to become a worry.
The sustained success they enjoyed last year was in so small way down to the team ethic rather than one outstanding individual, so it seems sensible to have avoided a big name signing. Bringing in the likes of Jordy Clasie is a measured signing, but not one that will set the world alight.

There have not been a huge amount of rumors in regards to Southampton, who have almost developed a reputation as a selling club in recent years. However, their income has been supplemented by some large transfer fees and you would imagine there is scope for bringing in a big name.
Andros Townsend seems like a fantastic target, as he is English and offers something different to the side. He is direct and has a great turn of pace that will help Southampton win games against the lower Premier League sides. it wouldn’t take a huge offer to prize him away from Tottenham, either.

Morgan Schneiderlin was one of the best performers in the Premier League, not least Southampton, last season. He has finally moved on after much speculation and he will be difficult to replace. There has been talk of Ronald Koeman using his Dutch heritage to persuade Wesley Sneijder into a move, but this doesn’t fill the hole in the heart of the midfield.
It is difficult to know just what calibre of player Southampton can attract as the seventh places team in England last year. Sneijder, despite now playing in Turkey, would be a huge name signing for the club and would be an effective statement of intent that they want to stay amongst the top sides.
