5. Orioles trade Koji Uehara to Rangers for Chris Davis
The Baltimore Orioles wanted to add some young talent for an extremely in-demand bullpen piece in Koji Uehara. In 2011, they decided to trade the 36-year-old reliever to the Texas Rangers for some talent that they had otherwise given up on.

Uehara struggled in his first half season with the Rangers, posting a 4.00 ERA in 22 games, but made up for that with a sparkling 1.75 ERA in 37 appearances in the 2012 season. However, that would be the aging reliever’s last season with Texas.
The Japanese reliever turned into a closer for the Boston Red Sox in 2013 and helped them win a world series, finishing the year with an unreal 1.09 ERA and 21 saves in 24 chances.
What did the Orioles get in return? Struggling young starter Tommy Hunter, who has since moved to the bullpen and is excelling, as well as hard-hitting first baseman Chris Davis who happened to be the league’s home run champ in 2013, belting 53.
Davis was a struggling prospect for the Rangers who saw his numbers dip each season on from his rookie year and, therefore, saw himself on the trade block. He has helped the Orioles become one of the best offensive units in baseball and has hit 138 home runs since the deal went down.
