22. Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is home to four major sports franchises: the Redskins (NFL), Capitals (NHL), Nationals (MLB) and Wizards (NBA.) Aside from that they have a Major League Soccer franchise in D.C. United.

The Redskins have been a travesty save for one NFC East championship game courtesy of a then healthy Robert Griffin III. The Wizards have found success as of late thanks to a lineup bolstered by John Wall, but it will be interesting to see how they contend without Paul Pierce next season.

The Nationals have become contenders and are currently on top of their roster. They have a genuine star in slugger Bryce Harper and an ace in Max Scherzer. Nationals Park also hosted the 2015 Winter Classic hockey game between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Capitals are a contending NHL team led by arguably the league’s best player in Alexander Ovechkin, though they’ve failed to translate regular season success into postseason success.

The city hosted the 2001 NBA All-Star game and in 2018 will host the Major League Baseball All-Star game.

The big stain on this sports city is the controversy surrounding their NFL franchise’s name, and the poor turf conditions at FedEx Field. Aside from that, the city boasts a healthy sports culture.
