Ranking the best sports cities in the United States
By Mike Dyce
16. Minneapolis
Minneapolis gets a bad wrap because their professional sports teams have struggled over the years. Still the Twin Cities are home to four professional sports franchises in the big four sports: Vikings (NFL), Twins (MLB), Timberwolves (NBA) and Wild (NHL).
The Vikings have teetered back and forth with success in the Adrian Peterson era, most notably with quarterback Brett Favre for a couple of seasons. With Teddy Bridgewater under center and a new stadium under construction, things are looking good on the football front. The Wild are a star-studded and consistent playoff team. The Timberwolves appear to be on the rise behind a couple of young stars like Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine.
What really makes Minnesota one of the most underrated sports cities is their venues. The Minnesota Twins have a beautiful new ballpark. The Minnesota Golden Gophers also have a beautiful new stadium in the works as well. The Vikings are getting a new stadium as well, and these upgrades in facilities have attracted major sporting events.
The city has hosted the 2014 MLB All Star Game and will host the 2018 Super Bowl in their swanky new stadium.
