22: Atlanta Braves

ACQUIRED: INF Hector Olivera (from Dodgers), LHP Paco Rodriguez (from Dodgers), RHP Zack Bird (from Dodgers), RHP John Gant (from Mets), RHP Rob Whalen (from Mets)

TRADED: 3B Juan Uribe (to Mets), INF Kelly Johnson (to Mets),  LHP Alex Wood (to Dodgers), RHP Jim Johnson (to Dodgers), LHP Luis Avilan (to Dodgers), RHP Bronson Arroyo (to Dodgers), INF Jose Peraza (to Dodgers) RHP Cody Martin (to Athletics)

The Atlanta Braves left many scratching their heads after watching the team make some questionable moves at the deadline. They moved some pieces that many expected them to and even found a way to dump the Bronson Arroyo contract they bought Touki Toussant for, but the rest of the moves are a bit confusing.

For one, sending controllable pitcher Alex Wood to the Dodgers, a move that makes no sense given the team’s need to supplement young talent into the roster. He was a building block and was significantly more-highly regarded than Zachary Bird. Additionally, a team in rebuild mode doesn’t gain much from adding a 30-year-old hitting prospect without a true position.

Maybe there is a different play here down the road, but the Braves may have taken a step backwards here.
