Alright, the Toronto Blue Jays may have made the most noise at the deadline, but the Houston Astros may have made the biggest playoff push with their pieces.

Houston entered the season as a team that looked ready to improve, but not necessarily compete. However, the Astros have found themselves among baseball’s best all season long and have shown that they are in a position to win now. As such, they went into the deadline looking to change their ways and buy, doing just that.

They landed a competent number two starter in Scott Kazmir, a solid fifth arm in Mike Fiers, and received a much needed offensive boost by landing Carlos Gomez from the Brewers. The various deals cost the team many of their top prospects, but after years of hoarding them while scraping the bottom of the MLB barrel, Houston has the pieces to get everything it wanted done.

Now it is in a position to make a playoff push. Times are looking up in Houston.
