24: Seattle Mariners

ACQUIRED: RHP Jose Ramirez (from Yankees), OF Ramon Flores (from Yankees), LHP Nick Wells (from Blue Jays), LHP Jake Brentz (from Blue Jays), LHP Rob Rasmussen (from Blue Jays), RHP Adrian Sampson (from Pirates)

TRADED: 2B/OF Dustin Ackley (to Yankees), RHP Mark Lowe (to Blue Jays), LHP J.A. Happ (to Pirates)

Like the Marlins, the Seattle Mariners had high hopes for 2015 and spent in a way designed to put the finishing touches on a roster many thought was ready to take the next step. Nelson Cruz and J.A. Happ were supposed to be those pieces.  Now Happ is no longer with the team.

The failures of the 2015 squad led to a minor dismantling of the team, but ultimately the Mariners didn’t lose any major pieces via the deadline. However, by spinning Dustin Ackley to the Yankees, Mark Lowe to the Blue Jays, and J.A. Happ to the Pirates the Mariners have arguably acquired some useful prospects in return for some superfluous pieces.

Left-handers Nick Wells and Jacob Brentz were the featured prospects landed, popping into the team’s top-30 prospects at #21 and #30 respectively, but none of the other prospects really wow. However, given that they’re all relatively young and undeveloped, there is still some time for the return to pan out. Nothing special yet, but potentially a decent haul for minor pieces.
