Fantasy football RB: 13 Rookies ready for impact
Matt Jones-Washington Redskins
Matt Jones (the running back in Washington not the WR on Cincinnati or the PGA golfer) is worth a handcuff for Alfred Morris owners since he is quickly claiming the third-down role on the Redskins.
Jones is trying to push Alfred Morris for the full-time running back role, and he could earn his way into at least a time-share with a strong preseason. Jay Gruden is a big fan of his pass protection and Morris has struggled in the receiving game at times. If Jones can continue to impress Gruden, he could get more time on the field than many thought coming into the draft. Washington took him in the third round when many had other backs still ahead of him, so they were obviously impressed by what he achieved in Florida.
Jones isn’t being drafted in most formats, so you can wait until your last few meaningful picks. If you are targeting Jones, make sure you know who has Alfred Morris since they could grab him as a handcuff. Jones could also blow his “sleeper” status if he goes off in training camp, so watch carefully to see how the former Gator adjusts to the RG3-fueled rushing attack. Jones ultimate value will be tied to how the Washington offense runs, but if Griffin and Gruden can figure their differences out, and Jones can push Morris aside at least a little, Matt Jones could be the steal of draft day at the fantasy football RB spot.
