The Colts are looked upon as Super Bowl favorites, but the defense must step up if those dreams are to be realized. Indianapolis is getting an infusion of talent at outside linebacker with Trent Cole coming over in free agency and Robert Mathis coming back from a torn Achilles, giving the team a much-needed boost in the pass-rushing department.

Mathis is not expected to come back until early October, meaning Indianapolis will have to make due with former first-round pick Bjoern Werner. Werner has yet to produce at an elite level, forcing general manager Ryan Grigson to acquire Cole. Indianapolis does not have much else in the front seven, although Jonathan Newsome is developing into a nice impact player.

In the secondary, corner Vontae Davis is a stud. Davis is capable of shutting down any receiver in the game without much help over the top. Mike Adams has developed into a fine free safety, making his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2014. However, the rest of the group is lackluster at best. Greg Toler has consistently underperformed while Dwight Lowery is a journeyman. Indianapolis needs the pass rush to get home.
