Golf’s forth, and final, major of the year tees off on Thursday with the opening round of the 2015 PGA Championship. This year’s event takes place at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Whistling Straits has hosted the PGA Championship two previous times, in 2004 and 2010. The winners of those events were Vijay Singh and Martin Kaymer. Despite this being the third PGA Championship, the course has never hosted any U.S. Opens – though the U.S. Senior Open was held at Whistling Straits in 2007, and the Ryder Cup will take place there in 2020.
After suffering a foot injury over 4th of July Weekend, Open Championship winner Rory McIlroy was forced to withdraw from the 2015 British Open. Luckily for golf fans everywhere, he announced that he’s back for the PGA Championship to defend his claim to the Wanamaker Trophy.
With McIlroy in the fold, that means we’ll be dealing with a fully stacked field. Young Texan Jordan Spieth looks to claim his third Grand Slam title this year, and continue marching toward one of the greatest seasons in PGA history. There are also Open Championship winner Zach Johnson, wildcard Rickie Fowler and Jason Dufner – who sparked the Dufnering craze after his 2013 victory – among others.
