Quarterback. Chicago Bears. Jay Cutler. 2. player. 57.
The comparisons to Jeff George prove to be more and more spot-on as Jay Cutler’s career arc continues to take a nose dive. He’s a coach killer and Lovie Smith, Marc Trestman, Ron Turner, Mike Martz, Mike Tice and Aaron Kromer will attest to that. Despite Cutler’s failures and shortcomings resulting in those coaches losing their job, Cutler not only keeps his job, but got a contract extension two winters ago that makes him one of the highest paid signal-callers in the NFL.

That’s unacceptable for a guy who was benched for one game for Jimmy Clausen. Chicago Bears fans have said this for years, but if first-year head coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase can tap into Cutler’s immense arm talent and ‘fix’ him, the Bears won’t be as awful as many expect.

Bears fans are also smart enough not to go down that rabbit hole again, so Cutler needs to prove he can salvage what’s left of his career and get the fans in his corner again. He doesn’t need to be an All-Pro, but he can’t lead the NFL in interceptions again and expect to return to Chicago in 2016.
