47. <p>The New England Patriots surprised everyone when they spend a second-round pick on Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the 2014 NFL Draft. That was the earliest Bill Belichick drafted a quarterback in the Tom Brady era and seemed too early to draft a player who wouldn’t be starting anytime soon unless Brady was injured.</p> <p>Oddly enough, Brady will miss time, but for the fallout from the Deflategate suspension that will cost him the first four games of this season, so Garoppolo will get his first chance to prove he belongs in the NFL when holds down Brady’s job until he returns.</p> <p>Can Garoppolo lead the Pats to a 3-1 record in Brady’s absence? If he can, he’ll boost his value around the NFL where he could be a trade target for a team in need of a starter this offseason and give him a shot at a career that won’t require him to hold a clipboard.</p> <p>He doesn’t have to be Brady in his four-game stretch, but he needs to prove he can do his job, lead the team and manage the game.</p>.
