29 greatest NFL players to never win a Super Bowl
By Mike Dyce
20. O.J. Simpson
While O.J. Simpson’s legacy is forever tarnished by what the run-ins with the legal system after his playing days were over, Simpson was still a remarkable player when he was active in the league. You can’t have a discussion about the best running backs in NFL history without bringing up Simpson.
In 1973, Simpson became the first NFL player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season. What makes this feat more impressive is that Simpson did it in a 14-game season.
It is a feat only six players have acheived since then and it took 11 NFL seasons for another player to join him in the 2,000 yard club. That 1973 season earned him NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the year honors from the Associated Press.
Simpson was also a six-time Pro Bowler, a five-time first team All-Pro, and four-time rushing champion. An extensive and impressive list of accomplishments that helped guide him into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, being inducted in 1985.
Despite his success, which included 11,236 career yards and 61 touchdowns, Simpson never hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The Bills made it to the postseason just once during his NFL career, in 1974, and lost in their first game.
