29 greatest NFL players to never win a Super Bowl
By Mike Dyce
29. Ozzie Newsome
Ozzie Newsome is one of the best tight ends in the history of the NFL during his career with the Cleveland Browns, and that right there should indicate to you why he is on this list. Newsome went to the Pro Bowl three times and was named a First Team All-Pro once, and Second Team All-Pro four times.
But Newsome’s impact on the Browns offense as evident right away. He was named the Browns’ best offensive player during his rookie season. Newsome set the Browns record for receiving yards in a game with 191 as a tight end in the 70s and 80s, a mark that stood for 29 years until Josh Gordon broke it.
Newsome was incredibly reliable and durable, not missing a game during his 13 year career, 198 games. Out of those 198 games, Newsome started in 191 of them.
His 662 receptions and 7,980 yards are both Browns records and his 47 touchdowns ranks fourth all-time.
During the end of his run with the Browns, the team made the AFC Championship Game three out of four years in the late 80s. All three times the Browns lost to the Denver Broncos.
While Newsome didn’t win a Super Bowl as a player, he would get rings as an executive as the general manager of the Baltimore Ravens.
