4. Tony Gonzalez

The tight end is considered the best at his position of all time, and has rewritten the recordbooks to reflect it. Gonzalez currently holds several NFL records for tight ends, including receptions (1,325), touchdown receptions (111) and total receiving yards (15,127).

Aside from the numerous records he set, Gonzalez has a long list of accolades that includes 14 trips to the Pro Bowl and ten All-Pro honors.

Gonzalez’s career spanned 17 seasons, 12 in Kansas City and five in Atlanta. The closest call with the Super Bowl came in the twilight of his NFL career, reaching the NFC Championship game with the Atlanta Falcons in 2012.

They lost that game to the San Francisco 49ers and Gonzalez ultimately elected to comeback for one more season to pursue that elusive Super Bowl win, but the wheels fell off for the Falcons in the 2013 season finishing 4-12 and missing the playoffs.

Considering some of the talent that Gonzalez played with over his career it is shocking that Gonzalez just made six trips to the post season. The 2012 season was the first and only time Gonzalez won a postseason game. His Chiefs teams, which included stints with running backs Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson, only made it to the postseason three times.

Still it doesn’t diminish the fact that Gonzalez is one of the best tight ends to ever play the game.
