29 greatest NFL players to never win a Super Bowl
By Mike Dyce
26. Carl Eller
Carl Eller was a member of the Minnesota Vikings dominant defense of the late 60s and early 70s that was titled the “Purple People Eaters.”
Eller’s list of accolades is certainly impressive. He recorded 133.5 sacks over the course of his career, 130.5 of which were with the Vikings and is a mark that still stands as the franchise’s all-time record. Even more remarkable might be the fact that Eller missed just three games in 16 seaons.
Eller went to six Pro Bowls over the course of his career, was named a First Team All-Pro five times and a Second Team All-Pro twice.
Eller and the Vikings came close to Super Bowl wins playing in the big game on four different occasions. The Vikings lost to some legendary teams in Kansas City, Miami, Pittsburgh and Oakland however. Eller is one of 11 Vikings to play in those four Super Bowls.
Eller helped lead the Vikings to 10 division titles over the course of 11 seasons, bring the Vikings into the playoffs on a regular basis.
It took a while, but Eller was finally enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
