For the first time in a long time, the Detroit Tigers were sellers and not buyers at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. For a team that was still technically in the hunt for a playoff spot, the decision to trade outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, ace David Price and closer Joakim Soria was puzzling to some – especially since the Tigers are not expected to go into a complete tear down and rebuild mode. Detroit expects to be a World Series contender every year, and 2016 will be no different.

However, the decision was made to restructure the roster and even though the team is still alive in the Wild Card race, the Tigers are likely to sell one or two more pieces instead of buy them. The most likely candidate to leave is outfielder Rajai Davis.

Davis will be a free agent at the end of the season, and though he probably wouldn’t make a huge impact at the plate for a contender, his speed is still a very valuable asset. As we’ve mentioned before, the Orioles could be in the market for an outfielder, as are the Tampa Bay Rays, but the team that could use Davis more than anyone is the San Francisco Giants.

A Double-A or Triple-A pitcher would be a fair return.
