The Toronto Blue Jays made a huge splash prior to the July 31 non-waiver deadline when they scored All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzski from the Rockies, former Cy Young Award winner David Price from the Tigers and speedy outfielder Ben Revere from the Phillies. Those moves have already paid off by sparking one of the hottest streaks in baseball: Toronto won 11 games in a row through August 13.

In August, they added infielder Cliff Pennington from the Diamondbacks, who has been a shortstop his entire career, but has been playing second base for Toronto. The club also recently signed outfielder Chris Heisey and George Kottaras for depth.

However, that doesn’t mean the Blue Jays should stand pat. Like many of the teams in contention, Toronto could still use an upgrade at second base over Pennington and Ryan Goins, or at least a utility player that can play a few positions as needed. San Diego’s Alexi Amarista certainly fits the bill, though the Padres might rather move Jedd Gyorko. The Blue Jays would probably be happy if they were able to get Will Venable, too.

As for a return Roemon Fields is an intriguing prospect that plenty of teams would have an interest in. He’s a former undrafted free agent known best for his base stealing ability. A light hitter, Fields excelled in 24 games with Double-A New Hampshire hitting .330/.384/.369 after a solid 66-game stint with Class-A Dunedin. The Padres could use a player like Fields, though they would probably need a pitching prospect and another player in return as well.
