MLB: Power ranking the best uniforms for 2015
By Will Osgood
12. Cincinnati Reds
Remember: We’re at the point where it’s easy to mismatch teams and their rankings. The Royals could easily have landed ahead of the Reds, whereas the Reds could have also skipped ahead a spot to the next team.
It’s not personal any longer (though there are several teams remaining I don’t particularly care for, I admit they all look good on the field, if nothing else). Similar to many of the other teams in the teens, the Cincinnati Reds spent the better part of the 1990s and 2000s sorting through multiple uniform combinations, home and away, before now landing on one that seems like it will stick.
For a number of years, they wore half-sleeve pinstripes with an option for red or black undershirts at home. Before that they even did the red sleeve without the cutoff top. Those were all fine for the time, but they were not made to last.
Now the Reds have a classic look which could seemingly last for decades if they’re patient enough to stick with it. Some fans may not be a fan of the red hat, black bill on the road, but it’s better than the black hat, red bill they wore previously (not that it was bad, but again it wasn’t going to last).
They could perhaps go back to just wearing the same all red cap both home and away. That may be the only real possible complaint.
The Reds have an alternate—a red one which is almost exactly like their home white jersey. And they wear it sparingly.
So kudos to them for not getting alternate happy as many other franchises do. All-in-all, it’s quite a solid logo and uniform.
