Madison Bumgarner

We all saw what Madison Bumgarner can do in the postseason. He is the main reason the Giants won the championship last year. He’s the best postseason pitcher this side of Andy Pettitte. For the Giants to repeat, though, they are going to need more out of their rotation.

The Giants sent their best pitching prospect to the Reds in order to acquire Mike Leake, who made a start then got hurt (Leake was set to come off the DL this week, but it has been delayed). Leake is 9-6 with a 3.52 ERA and is in a contract year. If the gives the Giants another plus arm behind Bumgarner, he can cash in this offseason and maybe even stay with the Giants.

Matt Cain is back from injury, however he has struggled in his return from the DL. Jake Peavy is steady veteran right-handed presence in the rotation. Chris Heston has emerged out of nowhere and even pitched a no-hitter earlier this season.

The Giants could turn to Tim Hudson, Ryan Vogelsong or Tim Lineceum down the stretch if they need to – should Linececum and Hudson can get healthy in time. The team should have enough depth to make another run. Of course having Mad Bum at the top of the rotation doesn’t hurt either
