Dissecting why the Pittsburgh Pirates could win the 2015 World Series.

The Pittsburgh Pirates began the season slightly above average at 26-24 after two months of play while superstar slugger Andrew McCutchen struggled to gain any type of momentum.

It seemed like the Pirates would be an easy out this year, and may not even make one of the two wild card spots in the National League. However, over the last three months Pittsburgh has gone on a tear and surged into second place in the very tough NL Central.

Not only do the Pirates have the second-best record in the division, they have the third-best mark in all of baseball, trailing only the NL Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals and AL Central-leading Kansas City Royals.

Unfortunately for the Pirates, they are in the toughest division in baseball alongside the league’s top three teams — St. Louis and Chicago, with whom they are sandwiched between.

While it may seem like the Pirates aren’t much better than they were last season (when they lost the 2014 National League Wild Card game to the eventual champion San Francisco Giants), some midseason acquisitions may have helped them get over the hump and compete for their first World Series title in over 35 years.

Can this team rebound and prove everyone wrong by winning the World Series for the first time since 1979 and restore the baseball magic in Pittsburgh? Definitely. Here are five reasons why the Pirates could win the World Series in 2015.
