Running back Zac Stacy had a priceless Tweet the night of the 2015 draft when his team drafted running back Todd Gurley. His sentiment was simple and concise: “Yikes.” Now “yikes” might describe the Rams feelings as they just lost Tre Mason to injury and realize that Todd Gurley will not be ready to start by the season opener.

Stacy’s gut feeling was accurate. Shortly after the draft, he was traded to the New York Jets. Looking back on that night, Stacy said via Sports Illustrated, “I had no bad times with the Rams… But as far as my career and my opportunity to play there, I think it was just limited with them drafting a running back.”

Turns out if Stacy had stayed, he would have seen playing time. The bruising 5-foot-nine, 224-pound back had a stellar 2013 season with 973 yards, but dropped off in productivity, starting only five games and tallying a meager 293 yards. Still, with both Gurley and Mason out for the start of the season, “yikes” definitely describes the state of the Rams running game.
