When receiver Jordy Nelson fell to the ground with an injury during the Packers preseason game against the Steelers, it was hard not to fear the worst. Soon, fans worst fears were confirmed: Nelson would be out for the season with a torn ACL.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers complained in his postgame news conference, “It’s difficult to lose a guy like that in a meaningless game.”

It is especially difficult when that guy was responsible for 98 receptions for 1,519 yards in 2014 and 85 receptions for 1,314 yards in 2013. In fact, since 2008 Nelson has been a mainstay of the Packers offense, with 6,109 career yards in his seven NFL seasons and 49 touchdowns.

One of Rodgers favorite targets, Nelson will leave a huge void. The next man up is equally productive Randall Cobb who totaled nearly 1,300 yards sin 2014 with 12 touchdowns. Unfortunately for the Packers, Cobb is not entirely healthy either.

After a rough and awkward landing during the most recent preseason game against the Eagles, Cobb suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder joint. Media outlets are reporting that there is a “good chance” he could be ready for the first preseason game, but a less-than-healthy Cobb coupled with an out-for-the-season Nelson puts the Packers in a difficult situation at wide receiver.
