Five NFL teams that have lost the injury and suspension lottery
By Dani Bostick
The New York Jets had perhaps the most senseless injury of the season with rookie sixth-round draft pick IK Enemkpali slugging starting quarterback Geno Smith in the face, resulting in a broken jaw. IK was released, and Smith will be out for up to ten weeks. Interestingly, although Enemkpali wasn’t the one with a broken jaw, he claimed that a lot of Jets players called to check in on him after the infamous punch.
The Dallas Cowboys have also experienced their fair share of injuries, the most recent a shredded knee for cornerback Orlando Scandrick. Luckily the Cowboys have Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne ready to step up.
Hardly any teams have been immune to the preseason injury scourge. Houston Texans running back Arian Foster tore his groin and will be out until around week four. Beleaguered Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manzeil is out with soreness in his elbow. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and first overall pick Jameis Winston has a sprained ankle.
The third overall pick, Jacksonville Jaguars Dante Fowler suffered a season-ending injury during rookie minicamp, and the Chicago Bears first-round pick receiver Kevin White is on the regular season PUP list after needed surgery for shin problems. He will be out for at least six weeks.
