Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says he didn’t call for an onside kick, that it was an accident.
The Seattle Seahawks looked like they were getting a bit cute at the beginning of overtime against the St. Louis Rams. During the kickoff, the Seahawks appeared to go for an onside kick, which failed miserably and gave the Rams great field position to get a field goal to open overtime.
After the game, Carroll denied that the onside kick was an intended play.
Pete Carroll said that wasn't an onside kick, just miss-hit. #Seahawks

Carroll said that the ball was was supposed to be kicked down field according to one report, or chipped over the line according to the another reporter. Chipping it over the line seems to be the same thing as an onside kick.
Carroll says ball was supposed to be kicked down field. Not executed properly.

Seahawks were trying to chip it over front line and get ball. Wasn't supposed to be onside.

Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka is corroborating the story, or at least he is taking the blame for it.
Hauschka took full blame for inside kick saying he didn't hit it right.
