10 biggest MLB disappointments in 2015: Hitters
Each season, it’s seeming more and more like the Joe Mauer heydays are over.

At one point in his career, he was hitting .365 with 28 homers and 96 RBI on his way to a 2009 AL MVP Award. He has also been a six-time All-Star, three-time batting champ and five-time Silver Slugger Award winner over the course of his career.
Well, he’s getting up there in age, right? Wrong. Mauer has been in the major leagues for 12 seasons now, but he’s still in his early 30s — 32 to be exact — and before last season, his lowest career average in a full campaign was just .293.
Right now, Mauer is hitting a mere .269 with eight home runs and 58 RBI. He has never been a big home run hitter, by any means, so that part of his stat line isn’t the most telling — it’s his average.
Mauer had been known for being a consistent .300-plus hitter. In fact, his career average sits at .314, but for some reason, he has struggled to really get going this season and the once-reliable No. 3 hitter is looking more like a No. 5 or No. 6 hitter.
While 2015 might be a big disappointment, we might be witnessing the end of an era for Mauer and the Minnesota Twins.
