Kirk Cousins isn’t very good.

The circus surrounding Robert Griffin III and his status in Washington has been nothing short of exhausting. It is fair to suggest that the team’s mammoth investment in RGIII has a lot to do with the extended coverage of its now-backup quarterback, and the wall-to-wall evaluation of Griffin’s play and off-field antics has managed to mask an important fact: Kirk Cousins isn’t very good.

Cousins has been seen, at least by some, as a savior of sorts in Washington, simply because a portion of the fan base would embrace anyone under center that isn’t RGIII. However, the fourth-year quarterback from Michigan State has done nothing to inspire that type of confidence, and his opening week performance did nothing to change that.

His stats weren’t horrid on the surface, as Cousins completed 21 of 31 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown. Still, he uncorked two interceptions during the game, bringing his career total to 21 in only 15 appearances. Perhaps the most damaging stat of all comes from the fact that Washington has posted one (yes, one) victory with Cousins at the helm for a full contest.

On the bright side for Washington, this should be the final season that the organization is held hostage by Robert Griffin III. Still, though, Kirk Cousins isn’t the answer, thus leaving the team searching for the next big thing at quarterback once again.
