14. Roger Clemens 1986
24 wins

MVP
1986 was supposed to be the year the Boston Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino. They made a miracle run to the World Series, coming back and beating the Angels in the ALCS. The made the World Series and faced the Mets. They won the first two and three of the first five. They had the lead in game six thanks to a great start from Roger Clemens. Then, the bottom fell out and the curse reigned until 2004. But it wasn’t the fault of the power righty who the Mets originally drafted.
Roger Clemens burst onto the scene in 1986 and to 14 on our list.
Clemens was second in WAR with 8.9. He led the league in wins with 24 and ERA with 2.84. His 238 strikeouts were second in the league. He struck out 20 in one game vs the Mariners setting the all-time single game record.
He only walked 67 and gave up just 179 hits in 234 innings that season.
He led the league in FIP at 2.81 and WPA at 5.8. He also was one of the few pitchers that won MVP and the Cy Young in a season as well. He also had an ERA+ of 169.
