The Chicago White Sox thought they won the game on an incredible play. Then a twist of cruel fate gave the Oakland Athletics the win.

Sometimes sports can be cruel.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia almost made a career play he would remember against the Oakland Athletics. That was until he didn’t quite make the play and as a result the White Sox ended up losing the game.

Heading into the top of the ninth with a 2-1 lead, the White Sox were looking to lock the game down and send the crowd home happy. Two runners got on, and Billy Butler came to the plate against his former division rivals. Showing off his power, Butler got just enough to send it to the opposite direction.

That’s where it all unfolded. As Garcia went up, it appeared he had made an incredible catch as he robbed Butler of the home run. Well that lasted for all of about two seconds, as the ball bounced out as Garcia’s arm banged against the top of the outfield fence.

"Country Breakfast with a crunch!"

This is probably the MLB equivalent of the “Calvin Johnson Rule” in football. He made the catch but didn’t maintain full possession and as a result the Athletics took a 4-2 lead and won the game.

There’s not many worse ways to lose a game, but this has to be one of the worst. It’s not an easy play to make and Garcia gave it his all, but to lose it coming down is without a doubt probably a terrible feeling.
