Baltimore Orioles. Chris Davis. 9. player. 11. . 1B

Do you remember when Chris Davis  hit over 50 home runs and contended for an MVP award just two seasons after being basically irrelevant in the game of baseball? That seemed like so long ago, but in reality, it was only two seasons back.

  • The then-27-year-old slugger hit a solid .286 with 53 long balls and 138 RBI. He was right up there in the MVP voting, but came up short because of his average.

Well, he’s not quite having the same type of season in 2015 as he did in 2013, but Davis is back at that home run hitting thing and he’s darn good at it.

In 2014, he took a major step back, missing about 40 games and hitting a pitiful .196 with 26 home runs and 72 RBI. While the production numbers last season weren’t bad, his average dropped off the map.

Davis’ average is back up about 70 points this season as he’s hitting .261 with 42 homers and 107 RBI. He’s never going to be a guy who hits a very high average, but his power numbers will always be impressive.

It’s going to take a monstrous last month of the season, but there’s a possibility he could hit 50 home runs for the second time in three years — that hasn’t been done by anyone in quite some time.
