10 biggest MLB pitching disappointments of 2015
No. 7 Matt Garza
Since making his MLB debut in 2006, Matt Garza has been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball.
Aside from a disappointing rookie campaign, Garza has never posted an earned run average above 3.95. He has averaged 7.4 strikeouts per nine innings throughout his career, while recording a respectable 2.46 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
2015, however, has been an utter disaster.
Garza’s ERA has ballooned to 5.63, the worst since his rookie season. He is averaging a career-low 6.3 strikeouts per nine innings, and his 1.82 strikeout-to-walk ratio leaves much to be desired.
In addition he is giving up the most home runs of his career, and his -1.6 wins above replacement (WAR) is worse than his rookie campaign in which he recorded a 5.76 ERA.
The Milwaukee Brewers have opted to shut down Garza for the remainder of the season in order for some younger players to get experience, something that has angered the 31-year old righty.
"“It’s (expletive),” Garza told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “It’s not my decision. I didn’t get much say. It’s completely taken out of my hands. That’s it. I didn’t have any say at all. “It is what it is. It’s just (expletive).”"
Garza has never been an All-Star during his career, but he has developed a reputation as a reliable middle-of-the-rotation starter throughout his time in the MLB. That reputation could be in danger after a disastrous 2015 season.
