One Million Moms disapproves of the Muppets new sexy vibe

Conservative group One Million Moms speaks out against ABC’s new Muppets show on account of how sexy all the Muppets are getting.

The Muppets have been making bit of a comeback lately, and they’re acting kind of off. Specifically, they seem a lot more interested in sex than they used to, something that hasn’t escaped the notice of the media. In a promo for the Muppets’ upcoming show on ABC, Miss Piggy furiously made out with Topher Grace right after advising him that he would “need [his] strength” for what we can only assume was a marathon bout of inter-species sex—it was a little like crossing the Rubicon of human-felt relations. These clearly weren’t the Muppets we remember from the 70s.

That promo video, embedded below, inspired conservative group One Million Moms to boycott the new show with a call to action on their website. Here’s an excerpt:

"The mature version of “The Muppets” will cover a range of topics from sex to drugs. Miss Piggy came out as a pro-choice feminist during an MSNBC interview. The puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on abortion and promiscuity.ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined “The Muppets.” How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children? Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time. 1MM and others need to get the word out to families to avoid this program at all costs. Please forward this to everyone you know!Meanwhile, parents will have to explain to confused children that the program they once were allowed to watch is no longer a nice show. This would have been completely unnecessary if ABC had made the program follow its original family-friendly design."

One Million Moms is the parent-focused arm of the American Family Association (AFA), a group that promotes fundamentalist Christian values, which mostly translates to warning everybody about the dangers of homosexuality. The Muppets may be a little more liberal about their relationships these days (Fozzie Bear is dating a human woman whose parents disapprove being “intimate” with wildlife), but we’re pretty sure we don’t want to be on the same side as the AFA. So go ahead, Muppets: get filthy.
