High Value Running Backs

Joseph Randle (6,500): Randle will be the focus of the Cowboys offense after Tony Romo joined Dez Bryant on the sidelines with major injuries.  In his first two weeks as lead-back in the rotation in Dallas, Randle has run for a total of 116 yards and added 56 yards on three catches.  He hasn’t lit up the opposition or found the end zone yet, but he’ll be expected to carry the load this week.  He should be able to produce in a good matchup against the Falcons who have allowed more fantasy points to opposing RB than any other team in the NFL. Everything is pointing his way right now making Randle a high-risk, high-reward RB to start this week.

Devonta Freeman (6,500): On the other side of the Falcons-Cowboys matchup, Devonta Freeman will carry the load for the Falcons running game while Tevin Coleman deals with his rib injury for the next few weeks.  Last week, Freeman found the end zone and posted double-digit FanDuel points even though he only had 25 yards on 12 carries and 34 yards on four catches.  He’s still worth a look despite the low yardage totals since he doesn’t have a proven backup and will get as much work as he can handle Sunday against the Cowboys.

Danny Woodhead (6,400): Woodhead is very involved int he Chargers attack both as a pass-catching back and getting a good amount of carries which makes him a nice option on FanDuel as the Chargers head to Minnesota to face the Vikings. In week 1, Woodhead ran for two touchdowns so his 19.7 FanDuel points may have been a little inflated, but he followed that up with 13.4 DraftKings points in week 2 mostly on the strength of his six catches for 68 yards.  As long as he’s so involved in the Bolts’ passing game and getting some short-yardage work at the goal line, Woodhead is a steal at just 6,400 although he’s in a timeshare which can sometimes be hard to predict.

Lorenzo Taliaferro (5,600): Taliaferro played only eight fewer snaps in week 2 than starter Justin Forsett, and I think his physical style of running is a nice contrast to the skittish Forsett’s style.  On Sunday, he ran for 34 yards and a touchdown in his debut while catching three passes for 12 yards.  Unfortunately for those of us who would like to buy in to him this week, he’s dealing with a foot injury, so monitor his progress the rest of the week.

Bilal Powell (5,200): The Jets have pounded the ball and played defense on their way to a 2-0 start to the season.  While Chris Ivory has been getting most of the work, Powell has carved out a nice chunk of carries for himself as well.  In week 1, Powell had 12 carries for 62 yards and two catches for 16 yards in the Jets win over the Browns.  He followed that up in week 2 with 12 more carries for 38 yards and 16 yards on four catches.  On a short week this week and with Chris Ivory reportedly “very sore,” Powell could be in store for even more work this week against the Eagles. As long as Ivory plays, Powell will have a ceiling, but he’s a solid inexpensive option who should get a good amount of touches at the very least.

Jeremy Langford (4,700): Langford put together a strong preseason and entered the year as Matt Forte’s primary backup in Chicago.  Although he only had one carry in week one, last week he took six carries for 21 yards and a touchdown.  The Bears are having to be careful with Forte and keep him on a “pitch count,” and he’s also been dealing with a knee issue that Coach John Fox is playing coy about.  Langford could get increased opportunity if they go heavy in the running game with Jimmy Clausen under center. Forte has also been dealing with a knee issue this week. This week, the Bears are in Seattle making Langford a dangerous risk to play, but there’s also a good chance that the game gets out of hand and he could pick up some garbage time scoring.
