Hillary Clinton to be all hip, get interviewed by Lena Dunham

Hillary Clinton sat down with millennial savant Lena Dunham for an interview that will be released Tuesday.

Presidential campaign season is on, and even though Hilary Clinton is the presumptive frontrunner on the Democratic side of things, we’ve been hearing a lot more from her Republican opponents lately, particularly Donald Trump. Clinton has been making more more of an effort to get her name out there—she stopped by The Tonight Show to play a friendly game of pretend telephone with Jimmy Fallon, for example—and will soon be going after millennial voters by sitting down for an interview with Girls star Lena Dunham, their patron saint. Here’s a teaser, courtesy of Politico.

The interview will be released through LennyLetter, Dunham’s online newsletter (lifestyle bulletin board, navel-gazing private newspaper, whatever), this coming Tuesday. Predictably, people at Fox News are already in a tizzy over the prospect of these two women, neither of whom likely voted for Ronald Reagan even once, sitting down and talking about feminism and income inequality and gay marriage and whatever else Dems discuss behind closed doors. “Barf,” Fox News Channel contributor Katherine Timpf wrote on the National Review. “Serioulsy (sic), I’m trying to imagine something more hack than a Lena Dunham/Hillary Clinton interview about “feminism,” but am having a hard time because I don’t think it exists. One thing I do know for sure: When I watch it, I’m going to feel nauseated as I try to decide which Cool Feminist is fan-girling harder over the other one.”

So that should be fun to keep an eye on. This reminds me a bit of when President Obama went on Funny or Die’s Between Two Ferns web series, hosted by Zach Galifianakis. That interview went over pretty well, although Dunham’s will probably be a little more straightforward. More to the point, Obama’s appearance on Between Two Ferns gave Healthcare.gov a 40% boost, so reaching out to millennials may not be a bad move on Clinton’s part.
