Losers: Michigan State Spartans (No. 4; Down From No. 2)

Look, Michigan State, your mission was pretty easy. After the way your program has played the last few seasons, you were given the No. 2 spot in the rankings, and quite frankly, this was a place that you earned. But, that being said, you just had to not look like crap. You especially needed to not look like crap after we found out that the Oregon team you beat may not be very good after all.

Yeah, well you failed that mission on Saturday.

Michigan State barely escaped with a win over Purdue, which did not rub a lot of people the right way. To be quite honest, this team is lucky they weren’t booted from the top-five after that performance.

However, putting this team in the No. 4 slot is telling in and of itself. We that cover the sport are left uneasy by the way the Spartans have played, so you can probably assume that the folks on the College Football Playoff committee are going to feel the same way.

With a month left until the initial rankings are released, there’s time to salvage your position, Sparty. You just need to start taking opponents to the woodshed.
