2. Kris Richard

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinators always seem to get a head coach opportunity. Gus Bradley was hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars before the 2013 season and the Atlanta Falcons brought in Dan Quinn to run their team this past offseason.

Kris Richard was promoted from defensive backs coach to defensive coordinator shortly after Super Bowl XLIX to replace Quinn. Richard received praise for working with Seattle’s “Legion of Boom” defense that included Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell and Kam Chancellor, so the new responsibility of being the DC was deserved.

It’s no secret the Dolphins defense has under-performed. Coming into today’s game against the Jets, they allowed 1,173 total yards, ninth-worst in the league. Their 435 rushing yards allowed coming into today was also third-worst. Add on the 207 yards put up by the Jets in London and that ranking may become the worst in the league when this week’s action is complete. So, it’s safe to say the Dolphins would need to reconstruct this defense.

In Seattle, Richard has produced a great defense three weeks in like his predecessors did. The Seahawks have only allowed 859 yards coming into this week’s game, the third-best in the NFL. Their rushing defense has also only allowed two touchdowns so far.

While Richard may only be in year one as a defensive coordinator, he will get looks as a head coach if the Seahawks defense continues to produce. If that’s the case, you could expect the Dolphins to at least check in on him.
