Week 4 Most Valuable Player

Drew Brees, QB New Orleans Saints

The weekly MVP award could be renamed as the “Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady” award and that would reflect what has transpired to this point in the season. However, Brady was on a bye week and Rodgers was underwhelming in Week 4, at least according to his lofty standards.

Brees, on the other hand, was anything but underwhelming while leading the Saints to a much needed victory on Sunday night. The veteran signal-caller battled through a shoulder ailment that forced him to sit out in Week 3, and even without his usual throwing force, he was able to put together an incredibly impressive statistical performance. He finished the day with 359 yards on 33 of 41 passing with two touchdowns against no interceptions. And while the Cowboys aren’t exactly known for defensive prowess (to put it mildly), Brees was surgical in taking what he was given and maximizing his relatively pedestrian weapons.

It would be a surprise, at least to me, if we saw Drew Brees recognized in this space again this season, but for one night in Louisiana he was lights-out under some extremely trying circumstances.
