NFL Week 5 awards: Fletcher Cox terrorizes the Saints
By Brad Rowland
Week 5 Most Valuable Player
Andy Dalton, QB Cincinnati Bengals
It would be difficult to find a quality NFL player who has taken more flack ins recent years than Andy Dalton. Of course, some of the dismissiveness surrounding both the Bengals and their starting quarterback has been justified, as Cincinnati has produced woeful performances in several important spots (most notably the playoffs).
Still, there is no denying that Dalton is playing tremendous football right now, and that was certainly evident in Week 5 during a comeback victory over the Seattle Seahawks. With Cincinnati trailing 24-7 in the fourth quarter, Dalton engineered back-to-back touchdown drives, with both a pass (to Tyler Eifert) and a run for a score. In total, he completed 30 of 44 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
There is a segment of the football world that will never buy into Andy Dalton until he wins a playoff game in spectacular fashion. Regardless, he is playing fantastic football right now while utilizing his weapons to the maximum degree, and with that, he is the MVP of Week 5.
