Brooklyn Nets – Over/Under 27.5 wins

The Nets are, without question, the most boring team in the NBA. However, there is some important context to consider before racing to the window to take the under against Brooklyn.

First and foremost, the Nets have no incentive to “tank” this season. Brooklyn owes their first-round pick to the Boston Celtics as a part of the Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett trade, and slipping in the standings won’t do anything to better the franchise in the long term. Beyond that, the Nets are well-coached under Lionel Hollins and the trio of Brook Lopez, Joe Johnson and Thaddeus Young can be counted on for solid production.

I’m not necessarily begging you to take the over on Brooklyn, but they’ll be trying throughout the season and I think that matters a great deal when compared to their (incredibly) low projection.

The Pick: Over (30-52)

Charlotte Hornets – Over/Under 32.5 wins

I was never high on the Hornets coming into the 2015-2016 season, and with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist on the shelf for an extended period of time, I’m completely out on Charlotte.

Charlotte had the makings of a potentially interesting defensive team with Kidd-Gilchrist and Nic Batum playing together, but with MKG gone, the Hornets have a dearth of talent on the wings. Throw in the fact that Kemba Walker has been largely underwhelming and it becomes difficult to piece together a scenario in which Charlotte is above-average on either end of the floor. With apologies to Al Jefferson, who is still quite good as he enters a contract year, I simply don’t see the firepower, and while some project the Hornets as a playoff team, I see a plunge toward the Eastern Conference basement.

The Pick: Under (24-58)
