8. New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons

These two teams have been rivals ever since they came into existence. The Falcons were made an expansion team in 1966, becoming the first team south of Washington D.C. to be an NFL franchise. They would not be alone for too long, with the Saints joining them only a year later. With no other teams anywhere near them geographically, Atlanta and New Orleans became bitter rivals in the NFC West and now the NFC South.

This rivalry does not get the publicity that others do because neither has been a huge power in the league for very long. The two franchises have combined for just one Super Bowl win and two appearances, and have never played each other in the playoffs. However, Steve Gleason’s amazing moment will always endure as the rivalry’s top moment, when the defensive back blocked a punt for a touchdown in the Saints’ return after Hurricane Katrina.
