Matt Forte fumbles ball to himself in lucky play (Video)

Matt Forte used up one of his nine lucky lives in a fumble against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. 

The Chicago Bears have gotten off to a slow start, but things are starting to go their way as they hit a stride in John Fox’s first year. Jay Cutler is still a turnover wild card, but there was some luck to be had in that game with another players on Sunday afternoon.

Matt Forte fumbled the ball when he was hit from behind on a running play early on, but he managed to fumble it back to himself.

Luck doesn’t begin to describe it:

Almost ten times out of ten this is a fumble that ends up going the other way. That wasn’t the case this time though as Forte can count his lucky stars that he fumbled the ball to himself on this one.

This is also a nice commentary on the Lions, as it highlights how wildly unlucky they’ve been in a season where they’re still searching for their first win. You don’t get that win by letting a fumble like this find its way back into the hands of the guy that dropped it — even if the stars aligned to help him out.
