Michigan newscaster reads entire segment as if Wolverines beat Michigan State.

Well this is awkward. A news station in Michigan decided to cut a little preroll footage about the Michigan-Michigan State game when it appeared that the Wolverines had things squarely in hand. When the studio kicked it over to sportscaster Jamal Spencer, who was outside of The Big House, he delivered a report about Michigan winning. Unbeknownst to him, Sparty wound up pulling off a miraculous, last-second victory.

To his credit, Spencer hasn’t run from the Internet fun poking. Such moments make for perfect viral clips off of which sites can generate quick traffic before moving on to the next piece (this website not excluded). As for the person involved, nothing to do but man up and take it on the chin.

Such is the nature of the fast-moving world in which we live. Television stations are competing with the Internet to get news out quickly, meaning they’re forced to play a little faster and looser than they might like.

First and wrong is still wrong, but this ain’t the first time something like this will happen; it won’t be the last. Can you imagine the colossal blog and social media meltdown that would’ve happened during the Heidi Game? Nowadays we just have the power to overreact in a much quicker way.

Now onwards! On to the viral piece.
