Christine Michael-Dallas Cowboys (31.3%)

Dallas’s offensive line is one of the better ones in the NFL as they proved last year helping DeMarco Murray to a huge year.  This year after Murray’s free agent departure, Joseph Randle has looked good at times behind the Dallas O-line, but he has struggled with consistency as the offense has stagnated under Brandon Weeden.

This week, Dallas is hitting the reset button on their offense and trying to come back off their bye with a bang as they travel to New York to face the Giants.  Dallas is sitting Weeden and going to Matt Cassel at QB, and they’re also looking to shake things up in their backfield-by-committee. Reports out of Dallas are that the coaches have been very frustrated with Randle, and the running backs coach Gary Brown said that the team is “going to take the reins off” Christine Michael this week and “let him rock.”  Michael has been an intriguing fantasy enigma in his time in the NFL mostly as backup to Marshawn Lynch in Seattle.  The Seahawks traded Michael to Dallas this offseason for a seventh-round pick, but he only has managed two touches so far in his tenure with the Cowboys totaling five yards on his two carries.

Michael has long has the raw physical tools and freak athletic ability to be a fantasy football factor, but he hasn’t ever been given a chance to show it off in the regular season.  While it’s extremely hard to know what to expect from Michael this week, his long-term upside definitely makes him worth a speculative stash if you have the roster depth to hold him.  If he can rise to the occasion, it wouldn’t surprise me if he takes over most of the Cowboys’ backfield workload and could be this year’s version of Odell Beckham as a midseason pickup that propels fantasy teams to championships.  Starting Michael this week is risky, but owning him to see the new workload distribution is a savvy fantasy football waiver wire move.
