Harold Reynolds wants this man to be safe (Photo)
After a Blue Jays’ challenge overturned a call on the field and made the Royals‘ Alex Rios out on the play, announcer Harold Reynolds lost his cool about the spirit of the game.
Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals has seen two big challenges and some aren’t happy with the replays.
After Royals outfielder Alex Rios stole second base in the top of the fourth inning with two outs and was ruled safe, the Blue Jays challenged that Rios had popped up off the bag and was tagged out.
After the play was reviewed by officials, it was clear that Rios had both feet come right off the bag as he popped up into the air.
Even though it was the right call on the field, announcer and former big league ballplayer Harold Reynolds was not happy with the call on the field.
Reynolds, feeling the spirit of the game is more important than the right call being made on the field, received criticism for his comments, including a great sarcastic take from Keith Olbermann.
So to recap what just happened. Rios stole a base and replay ruled him out. Reynolds thinks that despite replay showing him clearly out, he should still be safe because of the spirit of the game.
Reynolds needs to understand that occasionally, rules are important and stuff. Rios knows he needs to stay on the bag. He failed to do it. Case closed.
