Offensive Player of the Week

Philip Rivers, QB San Diego Chargers

It is basically impossible to earn MVP honors in a loss, but that is the only reason that Philip Rivers isn’t featured for the week’s biggest award. Instead, San Diego’s signal-caller will settle for offensive POW honors, as he captained the Chargers to an impressive performance despite the final result against Green Bay. Rivers connected on 43 of 65 passes for 503 yards (not a misprint) and two touchdowns on the day, and he carried the San Diego offense throughout the day as his team virtually abandoned the running game entirely. Rivers isn’t the best quarterback in the league, but he can’t be asked to do any more than he did in Week 6, and San Diego nearly pulled an improbable upset as a result.

Runner-up: DeAndre Hopkins, WR Houston Texans

Defensive Player of the Week

Cameron Wake, DE Miami Dolphins

Remember when the Dolphins were supposed to be good? That was a simpler time for Miami fans, but after a bye week and with a new head coach at the helm, the Dolphins looked pretty good in dominating the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. In the middle of everything was Cameron Wake, who looked quite healthy while tearing up the Tennessee offensive line to the tune of four (yes, four) sacks on the day. Providing four sacks in a single NFL game will almost always net a player various accolades, but Wake also forced two fumbles on the day and generally terrorized Marcus Mariota throughout the day. It remains to be seen if this was a one-week blip for the Dolphins, but Wake is a stud.

Runner-up: Cameron Jordan, DE New Orleans Saints
