High Value Running Backs

Todd Gurley (5,000): The Browns have struggled to stop the run all season making Todd Gurley one of the best plays on DraftKings week 7.  In his two games before the Rams bye, Gurley showed how great he can be.  He ran for 146 yards in week 4 against the Cardinals and followed that up with 159 yards against Green Bay.  He didn’t get into the end zone yet in his NFL career, but he’s a workhorse back in a great matchup making him one of my favorite plays of the week. It will be Gurley’s home debut and the Rams’ fans should have plenty to cheer about since Cleveland has given up over 150 yards to opposing RB’s in three of the last four weeks.

Doug Martin (4,900):  Martin has been huge in the last two games for the Bucs totaling 229 yards and three touchdowns on the ground while adding 72 yards on eight catches and another score through the air.  He is in a tougher matchup this week against Washington who has been pretty solid against the run, but I still like his upside at this price point this week.

Danny Woodhead (4,600): Melvin Gordon was supposed to be the go-to early down option in San Diego but the rookie has struggled this season and was benched after two fumbles on Sunday against the Packers.  Woodhead caught five passes for 63 yards and got some goal line carries finishing with just eight yards on his seven carries.  He should be very involved this week against the Raiders which sets up for a nice game at this value price.

Theo Riddick (3,400): Riddick has been one of the best RB receivers hauling in 33 catches already this year.  With Joique Bell and Ameer Abdullah taking early down work, Riddick probably won’t get seven carries like he did last week (for 28 yards), but he is still worth a flier since he catches so many passes out of the Lions’ backfield.

Antonio Andrews (3,300): Andrews had more carries on Sunday than Bishop Sankey and Dexter McCluster, but he didn’t get into the end zone and managed just 23 yards on his nine carries.  This week, he and the Titans host the Falcons who have given up more fantasy points to opposing RB than any other team in the league. Andrews should still get the most work of the three, but he’s high-risk due to the uncertain committee timeshare and the Titans’ offensive struggles.

Darren McFadden (3,100): Even though the roles in the running back by committee are cloudy, it does look like McFadden will serve as the team’s receiving back after Lance Dunbar was lost for the season in week 4.  McFadden had nine catches for 62 yards in week 5 against the Patriots and added 15 yards on five carries.  Joseph Randle has reportedly frustrated the coaching staff which could lead to more work for McFadden, but it’s hard to say for sure what Christine Mchael’s new role will be and how Matt Cassel under center will chance the Dallas attack.

Week 6 Picks: Gio Bernard, Duke Johnson, Javorius Allen, Antonio Andrews, Theo Riddick, Chris Thompson
