Best quarterback/wide receiver duos in NFL history

14. Bob Griese and Paul Warfield
Paul Warfield was just an average 6-foot, 188-lb wide receiver from Ohio State when the Cleveland Browns made him the No. 11 overall pick in the 1967 NFL Draft. Okay, so maybe he wasn’t averaged size then, but he’d be average size in today’s NFL.
After putting up 44 touchdown catches in six solid years with the Browns, Warfield found himself with the Miami Dolphins to begin the 1970 season. He teamed up with the fourth-overall pick from the 1967 NFL Draft, Bob Griese.
Griese was entering his fourth year in Miami when Warfield hopped on board, and things did not get off to a great start. Warfield caught just 28 passes for six touchdowns, and Griese threw only 12 touchdowns with 19 interceptions.
The following year, Griese threw 19 touchdowns with only nine interceptions while Warfield led the league with 11 touchdown grabs.
In 1972, in spite of Griese being injured, the Dolphins went undefeated and are still the only team in NFL history to go undefeated through the regular season and the postseason. The 2007 New England Patriots went undefeated through the regular season but lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl — close but no cigar.
Warfield and Griese would play another two years together before Warfield went back to Cleveland to finish out his career. By the time it was all said and done, Wafield caught 29 of Griese’s 192 career touchdown passes.
Warfield caught another eight touchdowns in his final two years with the Browns before retiring in 1977 with 85 career touchdown catches.
