Drew Brees completed seven touchdown passes on Sunday, tying an NFL record

Drew Brees was dialed in from the moment he and the New Orleans Saints took the field against the New York Giants in Week 8. He started off the day by throwing a long touchdown on a flea flicker and hasn’t stepped off the gas pedal a bit as he’s had himself a record-breaking (or record-tying) day.

Trailing the Giants by seven points in the fourth quarter of a game where defense has been at a premium, Brees found running back C.J. Spiller for a nine-yard touchdown to tie things up. It also happened to incredibly be Brees’ seventh touchdown pass in the game, tying the NFL record:

With seven touchdown passes against New York on Sunday, Brees joins Peyton Manning, Nick Foles, Joe Kapp, Y.A. Tittle, George Blanda, Adrian Burk, and Sid Luckman as the only quarterbacks to throw seven touchdown passes in a single game. For good measure, Brees and Eli Manning have also combined to set the record for most combined touchdown passes in a single game with 13.

It looked as if Brees might have the chance to go into overtime and throw a record-breaking eighth touchdown pass, but a mishandled punt leading to the game-winning field goal gave the Saints the victory. I guess Brees will have to settle for sharing the record after an unbelievable day throwing the football on Sunday.
